Inpatient Respite Care (IRC)

Up to 5 consecutive days

Definition of Service: An IRC is a day on which the individual who has elected Hospice receives care in

an approved facility (freestanding Hospice, hospital, or nursing facility) on a short-term basis to provide

respite to family or other persons who are involved in daily care of the member.

Respite care may be provided only on an occasional basis and may not be reimbursed for more than five

consecutive days at a time (in accordance with 42 CFR §418.204).
