Commercial Fee-for-Service

activein force · 2026-10-01 – presentcompiled-edition

Fee-for-service commercial health insurance is the traditional health care payment system under which providers receive a

payment for each unit of service provided rather than a capitation payment for each member. Such insurance usually does not

restrict health care to a particular network of providers.

When commercial health insurance plans give the member the option of getting care within or outside a provider network, non-network providers may be reimbursed by the commercial health insurance company for covered services if they follow the

commercial health insurance plan's billing rules.
