HCA does not pay for any hospice care provided to a client covered by Medicare

Part A (hospital insurance).

• HCA may pay for hospice care provided to a client:

o Covered by Medicare Part B (medical insurance).

o Not covered by Medicare Part A.

For hospice care provided to a Medicaid-Medicare dual eligible client, hospice

agencies must bill:

• Medicare before billing HCA.

• HCA for hospice nursing facility room and board, using the nursing facility’s

NPI number in form locator 78 on the UB-04 claim form.
