Va. Model Jury Instr. Crim. No. 53.160
Irresistible Impulse—Definition
If you find from the evidence that the defendant knew the nature, character, and consequences
of his act and knew that his act was wrong, you may still find him not guilty by reason of insanity if
you find from the greater weight of the evidence that his mind was so impaired by disease that he
was totally deprived of the mental ability to control or restrain his impulse to commit the criminal
act.
