Va. Model Jury Instr. Crim. No. 2.540
Prior Conviction of Felony or Crime Involving Lying, Cheating, and Stealing
You may consider proof of the [witness's; defendant's] prior conviction of a [felony; crime
involving moral turpitude] as affecting [the witness's; defendant's] credibility, but it does not render
[the witness; defendant] incompetent to testify nor shall you consider it as evidence of the
defendant's guilt of the offense for which [the witness; defendant] is on trial [nor shall you consider it
in fixing punishment if you do find [the witness; defendant] guilty].
