Criminal Trial Setting Procedures
(a) Trial, Trial Confirmation Dates. Except as otherwise provided in this Rule,
the Magistrate Judge shall assign the trial, trial confirmation, and/or pretrial conference
dates at the time the defendant is arraigned. Each criminal action to be tried before a
Judge shall be set for trial, and for trial confirmation and/or pretrial conference, in such
manner and in accordance with such scheduling practices as the assigned Judge may
prescribe.
(b) Complex Actions. Any party who believes the criminal action is unusual
or complex within the meaning of 18 U.S.C. § 3161 shall so inform the Magistrate Judge
at the time of arraignment. If the Magistrate Judge determines that the action is unusual
or complex, the action shall be placed on the assigned Judge's next available criminal
motion calendar for a status conference.
