§485.631(a) Standard: Staffing
(1) The CAH has a professional health care staff that includes one or more doctors
of medicine or osteopathy, and may include one or more physician assistants, nurse
practitioners, or clinical nurse specialists.
Interpretive Guidelines §485.631(a)(1)
A CAH may operate with a MD/DO on staff as well as with any combination of mid-level practitioners.
Survey Procedures §485.631(a)(1)
• Review listings or organizational charts showing the names of all staff MD/DOs,
nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and physician assistants on the CAH
staff.
• Review work schedules showing normal CAH hours of operation and coverage by
members of the CAH staff.
