§483.368(b) Time out may take place away from the area of activity or from other
residents, such as in the resident's room (exclusionary), or in the area of activity of
other residents (inclusionary).
Interpretive Guidelines§ 483.368(b)
Exclusionary time out is defined as the state of being excluded from participation by
removal from the environment where an activity or group of individuals is located.
Inclusionary time out is defined as a state of being included in the environment where an
activity or group of individuals is located, but not participating in the activity or with the
group. In either situation whether it be exclusionary or inclusionary, a resident cannot at
any time be prevented from leaving the time out area.
