(i) Maintain the temperature and humidity within a normal comfort range by heating, air
conditioning or other means; and
Guidance §483.470(e)(2)(i)
A “normal comfort range” in most instances is defined as not going below a temperature of 68
degrees Fahrenheit or exceeding a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit in facilities in most
geographic areas of the country.
In extremely hot or extremely cold weather, precautions are taken by the facility to protect the
clients, particularly those who are medically compromised, from ill effects of the temperature.
