(1) Provide toilet and bathing facilities appropriate in number, size, and design to meet the
needs of the clients;
Guidance §483.470(d)(1)
In a home setting, the toilet facilities need to be of sufficient number to meet the needs of the
client without prolonged delay. There must be enough toilets in the living units to meet the
program needs of the clients at any given time, as well as provide for intermediate toileting
needs of the clients living in the unit.
In a home setting, it may be unrealistic to say a client would never have to wait for a shower or
bath or to brush his/her teeth.
Bathrooms and fixtures must be adapted to accommodate clients with physical disabilities.
