§483.460(k)(6) No client self-administers medication until he or she demonstrates the
competency to do so;
Guidance §483.460(k)(6)
The written self-administration program for a client must detail the criteria that will be
employed by the facility staff to verify that the client successfully completes all phases of the
program and continues to comply with all necessary requirements for self administration.
Clients who self-administer medications must secure all medications in such a manner as to
protect access by other clients or visitors.
