§483.420(a)(9) and to send and receive unopened mail;
Guidance §483.420(a)(9)
Clients must be provided the opportunity to send/receive all types of mail unopened and read
the contents themselves if able. If the staff has to open and read mail to the client, this should
be done in a private place allowing the client as much participation as possible.
Clients who have their own electronic equipment must be provided the opportunity to send,
receive, and read electronic mail with privacy.
