§ 494.180(a)(1) Staff appointments;
Interpretive Guidance § 494.180(a)(1)
The governing body, through the CEO or administrator, is responsible for the appointment of
medical staff including physicians and non-physician practitioners (i.e., advanced practice
registered nurses and physician assistants). These appointments must be documented, typically
in the minutes of the governing body or in the applicable credential file.
