§ 494.60(e) - Standard: Building Safety
(1) Dialysis facilities that do not provide one or
more exits to the outside at grade level from the patient treatment area level must meet the
applicable provisions of the Health Care Facilities Code, regardless of the number of
patients served.
Interpretive Guidance § 494.60(e)
Staff, as well as patients receiving services in the dialysis facility, are generally capable of self-evacuating from the patient treatment area in the event of an emergency when there is an exit to
the outside at the same level as the patient treatment area. If the dialysis facility does not provide
for one or more exits to the outside at grade level from the patient treatment area, it must meet
all applicable provisions of the Health Care Facilities Code, regardless of the number of
patients served at any given time.
Health Care Facilities Code, Chapters 7, 8, 12, and 13 are not applicable to dialysis facilities.
