§485.910(e)(5)(i) Restraint or seclusion may only be used when less restrictive
interventions have been determined to be ineffective to protect the client or other
individuals from harm.
Interpretive Guidelines §485.910(e)(5)(i)
Determine whether the facility has a policy on the use of restraint and seclusion and that
this policy includes a description of the tiered intervention measure(s) (least to most
restrictive) utilized prior to initiating the application of restraint or seclusion.
