[…the governing body must ensure that the following requirements are met:]
§482.12(c)(2) Patients are admitted to the hospital only on the recommendation of a licensed
practitioner permitted by the State to admit patients to a hospital.
Survey Procedures §482.12(c)(2)
• Verify that admitting privileges are limited to those categories of practitioners as allowed by
State law.
• Verify that patients are admitted only by those practitioners who are currently licensed and have
been granted admitting privileges by the governing body in accordance with State laws and
medical staff bylaws.
