Coding Tips
• The admission date specifies the date on which the hospice becomes responsible for the patient's care.
o For all patients, this is the effective date of the hospice election or re-election.
o For patient transfers (regardless of payer source), this is the date the patient was transferred to your
hospice from another hospice organization; specifically, the date your hospice became responsible
for the patient’s hospice care.
