b. Definitions.
Administration is defined as providing one dose of medication to be applied or
consumed immediately upon issuance.
Dispensing is the act of prospectively reviewing and verifying the medication order
described in Section 11 of this program statement.
Only pharmacists may routinely dispense medications.
Distribution is defined as physically handing a filled medication order or over-the-counter (OTC) product to an inmate.
Filling is the act of placing a medication in a bottle or unit of use system and labeling it
with patient specific information.
Filling may be done by an appropriately trained staff member.
