BOP Program Statement 5370.12 § 1
§ 544.30 Purpose and scope.
The Bureau of Prisons encourages inmates to make constructive use of leisure time and offers
movies, games, sports, social activities, arts and hobbycrafts, wellness and other group and
individual activities.
The purpose of this program statement is to ensure the Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) provides
recreational programs and services that support the physical, emotional, social well-being, and
reentry needs of the inmate population by offering opportunities for structured and unstructured
recreational activities.
a. Program Objectives.
■ To provide inmates with the services and skills needed to use their time constructively
and reduce idleness.
■ To enhance the physical, emotional, and social well-being of inmates through wellness
activities consistent with FSA objectives.
