BOP Program Statement 3760.01 § 9
URINE SPECIMEN TESTING BY CONTRACT LABORATORY
In accordance with Executive Order 12564, the Bureau must use only laboratories certified by
SAMHSA.
Pre-employment and random selection testing must be conducted for the following drug classes:
Marijuana
Fentanyl
Cocaine
Morphine, codeine, and other opiates
Amphetamines
Phencyclidine
Reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and post-substance abuse treatment testing must be
conducted for a minimum of the above listed drug classes. However, as indicated on a case-by-

case basis, the testing may be expanded to include any drug found on Schedules I and II of the
Controlled Substances Act or alcohol as reasonably suspected.
If an initial screening through the immunoassay method yields a positive result, the laboratory
must automatically perform a confirmation test on the specimen using Gas Chromatography /
Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). This is the most reliable combination of testing available.
