BOP Program Statement 3760.01 § 3
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)
The EAP is a confidential program available to all Bureau staff who have alcohol, drug, or
emotional problems or who have immediate family with these problems. The EAP's role is

assisting staff in the following:
Accept early counseling
Regain their productive capability
Minimize absenteeism, sick leave, and grievances
Reduce the need for disciplinary action
Improve morale
Staff are encouraged to seek confidential EAP assistance for any emotional or substance misuse/
abuse problems with which they may be trying to cope. Additionally, staff who contact a
management official seeking assistance in dealing with a drug or alcohol use problem may be
entitled to protection against disciplinary action. See Section 5. V oluntary Admission/Safe
Harbor Program and the Program Statement Employee Assistance Program for further
information.
Staff are solely responsible for all drug rehabilitation costs. Such expenses for staff or their
family members are not chargeable to the Bureau, the Department of Justice, or the United States
Government.
