Provider Enrollee Relationships

The CMS encourages a personal relationship between providers and enrollees. As such,
providers are frequently called upon to give advice and referrals. It is of the utmost
importance that a provider who refers a patient to a provider of a non-covered service
ensures that the enrollee is aware of his or her obligation to pay for such non-covered
services.
