Training Tailored for Small Medicare Providers
MACs shall tailor education to meet the needs of their small Medicare providers. Small providers
are defined by law as providers with fewer than 25 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees or
suppliers with fewer than 10 FTE employees. MACs may use interactive communication such as
face-to-face training sessions or web-based tutorials and instruction. MACs aren’t required to
identify or validate providers who meet the definition of small provider.
Education and training for small providers may include the following:
• Reviewing billing systems and internal controls to determine program compliance and
suggest more efficient and effective ways to achieve compliance
• Holding educational seminars for groups of providers who have similar issues and
providing technical assistance from EDI support staff
