Transportation Component (HCPCS codes R0070 - R0075)
Transportation for portable x-ray services (HCPCS codes R0070 - R0075) is paid under
the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and represents the transportation of the equipment
to the patient. CMS has not established national relative value units (RVUs) for these
HCPCS codes, and local RVUs for these codes are determined by each A/B Medicare
Administrative Contractor (MAC) within its respective geographic area. As a contractor
priced service, MACs must initially determine a payment rate for portable x-ray
transportation services that is associated with the cost of providing the service and
consistent with statutory requirements and as outlined in the below subsections.
