Publication of the Prospective Payment System (PPS) Base Rate
The End Stage Renal Disease Prospective Payment System (ESRD PPS) regulations
require Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to publish the Prospective
Payment System (PPS) base rate in a “Federal Register” notice when CMS incorporates
new cost data or wage index. When the PPS base rate is updated, a listing of the new
payment rates are published via Recurring Update Notifications. These rates are updated
and published as needed and are used when issuing a PPS base rate to a new or an
existing facility.
