Self Defense ‐ Defense of Third Person1
If a person reasonably believes that force is necessary to protect [himself] [herself] [another person] from what [he] [she] reasonably believes to be unlawful physical harm about to be inflicted by another and uses such force, then [he] [she] acted in [self-defense] [defense of ____________________].
[However, self defense which involves using force likely to cause death or great bodily harm is justified only if the person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to protect [himself] [herself] [the third person] from what [he] [she] reasonably believes to be a substantial risk of death or great bodily harm.]2
