S.C. Const. art. XI, § 2
State Superintendent of Education
There shall be a State Superintendent of Education who shall be the chief administrative officer of the public education system of the State and shall have such qualifications as may be prescribed by law.

1972 (57) 3193; 1973 (58) 44. The present provisions of this section are somewhat similar to former Section 1 of Article XI as it existed prior to the 1973 revision. For similar provisions in Constitution of 1868, see Const 1868, Art X, Section 1.
