Procedure for the Issuance of a Rule to Show Cause
A petition seeking the issuance of a rule to show cause shall be filed in the
Prothonotary’s Office. A proposed order, in the form prescribed by Pa. R.C.P. 206.6(c),
shall be attached to the petition. After filing, the Prothonotary’s Office shall transmit the
petition to the Court Administrator for consideration by the Court.
Upon the filing of a petition, a rule to show cause shall be issued as a matter of
course pursuant to Pa. R.C.P. 206.6, unless otherwise required by statute or other
Pennsylvania Rule of Civil Procedure.
A request for a stay of execution pending disposition of a petition to open a
default judgment is governed by motion procedure, not petition procedure. See Rule TC
- 208.3(a).
