SELF --- DEFENSE
SELF --- DEFENSE
[Defendant] is not liable to [Plaintiff] on [h is/her] claim of [assault/battery] if the
affirmative defense of self-defense is established. Th is defense is established if you find
both of the following:
1. [Defendant] honestly and reasonably believed [although perhaps
mistakenly] that under the circumstances it was necessary for [him/her] to

use force to protect [himself/herself] ag ainst an actual or apparent
threatened, [harmful/offensive] contact; and
2. [Defendant] used no more force than an ordinary person would have used
under the same or similar circumstances to protect [himself/herself]
against the actual or apparent threatened contact.
