Trial, hearing of cause, proceeding, motion entered into by one judge prevents action by another judge unless requested; only judge having charge of cause may grant further time to plead, act

(a) When any justice of the peace or justice of the peace pro tempore has begun the trial or hearing of any case, proceeding, or motion, or made any ruling, order, or decision therein, no other judge or justice of the peace pro tempore in a different department shall do any act or thing in or about such cause, proceeding, or motion, unless:

(1) Upon the request of the justice of the peace or justice of the peace pro tempore who shall have first entered upon the trial or hearing of such cause, proceeding, or motion; or

(2) Upon the formal retracking or reassignment of the case to a different department.

(b) Subject to Rules 11 and 13, no judge except a judge of the township where the cause or proceeding is pending shall grant further time to plead, move, or do any act or thing required to be done in any cause or proceeding unless:

(1) The judge is absent or from other cause is unavailable to act;

(2) Another judge or justice of the peace pro tempore has been requested to act by the judge having charge of the cause; or

(3) Another judge is assigned to the court by the chief judge, in which case that judge may hear any matter coming before the court during the period of assignment.
