Courthouse and courtroom security
(a) All persons, and all items carried by such persons, entering the Carson City Courthouse or the Storey County Courthouse, or any place where the First Judicial District Court or one or more of its judges is conducting judicial proceedings, are subject to appropriate screening and checking by officers assigned to duty in those venues. No cameras, recording, reproducing, or transmitting equipment, including phones, are permitted in judicial proceedings, unless prior written approval has been obtained from a First Judicial District Court judge. Any person who refuses to cooperate in such screening or checking shall be denied entrance. A person whose attendance in court is required by order, subpoena, summons, or other legal process and who refuses to cooperate in such screening or checking and is denied admittance may be sanctioned by the court.
(b) All persons entering the Carson City Courthouse or the Storey County Courthouse, or any place where the First Judicial District Court or one or more of its judges is conducting judicial proceedings, shall be disarmed, except where the person is:
(1) A law enforcement officer assigned to duty in the courthouse or other judicial-proceedings venue;
(2) A law enforcement officer assigned to transport and/or guard an incarcerated person to or in the courthouse or other judicial-proceedings venue;
(3) A law enforcement officer of the city or county where the courthouse or other judicial-proceedings venue is located, responding to an emergency request for assistance from a law enforcement officer described in (1) or (2) or responding to an emergency call for assistance from any person;
(4) The Sheriff or a full-time member of the Sheriff’s Office who holds an administrative position or rank of sergeant or above within the city or county where the courthouse or other judicial-proceedings venue is located; or
(5) The person has obtained written approval from a First Judicial District Court judge allowing the person to have a weapon in the courthouse or other judicial-proceedings venue in accordance with any limitations set forth in the written approval.
