Advisory Committee on Local Court Rules
8.1 An Advisory Committee shall be established to provide continuing study and review of existing local court Rules and to propose the adoption of new rules and the amendment or repeal of existing rules for consideration by the Presiding Judge in consultation with the Judges of the judicial district.
8.2 The members of the Advisory Committee shall be designated by the Presiding Judge after consultation with the Judges of the judicial district. Each member of the Advisory Committee shall serve for a term not exceeding 3 years and is eligible for reappointment. Initially, as determined by lot, one-third of the members of each committee shall serve for 3 years, one-third of the members shall serve for 2 years, and one-third of the members shall serve for one year. At the end of a member's term a successor shall be designated by the Presiding Judge for a full 3 year term. The Presiding Judge shall designate a chairman for the committee from among its members.
8.3 Each Advisory Committee may include representatives of the bar and members of the general public, at the discretion of the Presiding Judge.
8.4 Each Advisory Committee shall make reports as requested by the Presiding Judge.
8.5 Each Advisory Committee shall follow the petition procedure of Section 3 with respect to any rules or amendments which it shall propose.
History
COMMENT The Rules Sub-Committee intends and recommends that the Presiding Judge choose officials and members of the Judicial District Bar Association and local bar associations for membership on the Advisory Committee. The Committee recommends that the Presiding Judge consult with those agencies in the selection of members of the Advisory Committee. The Sub-Committee recommends that several non-attorney members of the public be appointed to membership on the Advisory Committee in order to facilitate the reinforcement of public confidence and participation in court services.
