N.C.P.I.—Crim. 150.13
MEANING OF LIFE IMPRISONMENT.
NOTE WELL: Where a jury makes an inquiry about the
meaning of Life Imprisonment, in those cases that the
offense occurred on or after 10/1/94, the jury should be
instructed as follows:
A sentence of life imprisonment means a sentence of life without
parole.1
NOTE WELL: Where a jury makes an inquiry about the
meaning of Life Imprisonment, in those cases that the
offense occurred before 10/1/94 the jury should be
instructed as follows:
A sentence of life imprisonment means that the defendant shall be
imprisoned for life in the state's prison.
