N.C. Medicaid Clinical Coverage Policy No. 3D § 5.11
Concurrent Care for Children
Children means Medicaid beneficiaries under 21 years of age.
Hospice providers shall comply with Sections 1905(o)(1) and 2110(a) (23) of the Social
Security Act, and The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Section 2302.
Hospice services are available to children without requiring the waiver of any rights of the
child to be provided with, or to have payment made for, services that are related to the
cure or treatment of the child’s condition for which a diagnosis of terminal illness has
been made. Concurrent care is available to the child after the provision of hospice care.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act does not change the criteria for receiving
hospice services. The hospice provider shall provide all services covered under the
hospice benefit. Concurrent care does not duplicate the services covered in the hospice
benefit.
