Proposed Mississippi Plain Language Model Jury Instructions - Criminal 103
Note-Taking Not Allowed During Trial
You are not allowed to take notes during the trial. There are several reasons why you are
not allowed to take notes. One, it is hard to take notes and listen to the witnesses testify. Also,
some of you might take lots of notes while others might take very few notes. Those who did not
take lots of notes might be influenced by another juror’s notes. You are to listen to the testimony,
pay close attention to the evidence, and reach a fair and just verdict based on the evidence and
the law.
The court reporter will be making a transcript of the trial. However, you will not be able
to use the court reporter’s transcript during your deliberations.

Proposed Mississippi Plain Language Model Jury Instructions - Criminal 103 (current as of June 30, 2012). Submitted in 2012 by the Mississippi Model Jury Instructions Commission (created by the Supreme Court of Mississippi by order of December 30, 2008) and published by the Court on courts.ms.gov. The Court states that these model jury instructions have not been adopted or approved by the Supreme Court of Mississippi.
