Ind. IHCP Hospice Services Provider Reference Module, Section 3

Member Eligibility for Hospice Services

activein force · 2025-08-27 – presentcompiled-edition

This section provides Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP)-enrolled hospice providers with specific

information about member eligibility. This section also provides information about the hospice provider’s

responsibility for hospice authorization and the coordination responsibilities for individuals enrolled in

specific programs at the time the IHCP member elects hospice care. For detailed information about hospice

authorization, see Section 4: Hospice Election, Revocation and Discharge and Section 5: Hospice

Authorization in this module.

The information in this section is not meant to serve as a replacement for compliance with the IHCP

Provider Agreement. The IHCP Provider Agreement is part of the IHCP Hospital and Facility Provider

Enrollment and Profile Maintenance Packet available at in.gov/medicaid/providers, as well as the

application available online via the IHCP Portal.

The IHCP Provider Agreement specifies that it is the IHCP-enrolled hospice provider’s responsibility to

verify IHCP eligibility by using one of the following Eligibility Verification System (EVS) options, as

described in the Member Eligibility and Benefit Coverage module:

• IHCP Provider Healthcare Portal, accessible from the homepage at in.gov/medicaid/providers

• Virtual assistant (GABBY) at 800-457-4584, option 2

• 270/271 Eligibility Benefit Inquiry and Response electronic transactions using approved vendor

software

Note: IHCP eligibility status can change for numerous reasons. It is recommended that

hospice providers verify IHCP eligibility of their hospice members on a regular basis.

Hospice providers must review the Member Eligibility and Benefit Coverage module, as well as any

provider bulletins the IHCP releases about IHCP member eligibility or the EVS options. The IHCP

provider reference modules and provider bulletins are available on the Bulletins, Banner Pages and

Reference Modules page at in.gov/medicaid/providers.
