Definition Of School Speed Zone
The term “school speed zone” means [(a school zone) (a roadway on public school
property) (any public thoroughfare where children pass going to and from school)] on a school
day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. when school children are present and so close thereto
that a potential hazard exists because of the close proximity of the motorized traffic and where
appropriate signs have been posted and maintained upon streets and highways which give proper
due warning that a school zone is being approached and which indicate the school zone and the
maximum speed limit in effect during school days when school children are present.
