Idaho Medicaid Provider Handbook, Home Health and Hospice Services § 4.4.5
Skilled Nursing Facility Room and Board
An authorization from Medicaid’s Long-Term Care Unit is required for room and board in a
skilled nursing facility or intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities
(ICF/IID). Room and board payment includes assistance with activities of daily living (ADL),
socializing activities, medication administration, maintaining cleanliness of resident rooms,
and supervising and assisting use of durable medical equipment and prescribed therapies.
The Room and Board section of the Hospice Notification Form must be completed, noting the
name of the facility and the date that hospice room and board payment responsibility begins.
An eight month period is usually approved. It is very important to notify Medicaid if the hospice
participant has been discharged from hospice, or revoked hospice care so the authorization
end date can be modified.
