IN THE SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF HAWAIʻI

In the Matter of the

PILOT PROJECT FOR REMOTE APPEARANCES BY

DEFENDANTS AT POST-ARRAIGNMENT, CHANGE-OF-PLEA HEARINGS

ORDER

(By: Recktenwald, C.J., McKenna, and Eddins, JJ.,

Intermediate Court of Appeals Chief Judge Ginoza, and

Intermediate Court of Appeals Associate Judge Leonard,

assigned by reason of vacancies)

Upon consideration of the record in this matter,

regarding remote appearances by defendants at post-arraignment,

change-of-plea hearings, and the promulgation of amendments to

Rules 11 and 43 of the Hawaiʻi Rules of Penal Procedure which

will take effect on January 1, 2024, we conclude that a further

extension of the Pilot Project, to January 1, 2024, is

warranted. Therefore,

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Pilot Project for Remote

Appearances by Defendants at Post-Arraignment, Change-of-Plea

Hearings is extended nunc pro tunc from July 20, 2023 to January

1, 2024.
