Temporary Absence for Hospitalization

6.3.1 If a member is hospitalized for a short period of time and is expected to return to

the facility, payment may continue for a period of not more than 7 days provided

that the nursing home agrees to hold the bed for the resident.

6.3.2 DMAP reimbursement is available for only 7 days within any 30-day period. The

30-day count begins with the first day of hospitalization or a day of hospitalization

that immediately follows a previous 30-day period.

6.3.3 Patient pay amount may change because of temporary absence from the facility.

The facility may ask the family to pay privately to hold a bed for a patient who is

hospitalized longer than 7 days.
