Del. Medical Assistance Program Hospice Provider Specific Policy Manual § 1.0
Overview of Hospice Services
Hospice care is an optional benefit under the Medicaid program. A hospice is a
public agency or private organization or a subdivision of either that is primarily
engaged in providing care to terminally ill individuals. A participating hospice
meets the Medicare conditions of participation for hospices and has a valid
Delaware Medical Assistance Program (DMAP) provider agreement.
In order to be eligible to elect hospice care under DMAP, an individual must be
certified as being terminally ill. An individual is considered to be terminally ill if the
individual has a medical prognosis that his or her life expectancy is six months or
less.
