Scope, Purpose, and Construction

These rules govern habilitation proceedings in the Family Court of the Superior Court

of the District of Columbia under D.C. Code §§ 7-1301.02 - 7-1306.05. The rules should

be construed to secure simplicity in procedure and fairness in administration, and to

eliminate unjustifiable expense and delay. They may be referred to as the Superior

Court Rules of Habilitation Proceedings and may be cited as “Super. Ct. Hab. R.___.”

History

COMMENT TO 2026 AMENDMENTS This rule has been amended to conform with Superior Court Administrative Order No. 11-01, Change of Name to the Mental Health and Habilitation Branch (Jan. 5, 2011), and the general restyling of the Superior Court rules.
