HABITUAL CRIMINAL—SPECIAL INSTRUCTION (ADMISSION OF PREVIOUS CONVICTION)
During trial on the crime of [insert substantive offense(s)], the
defendant admitted to a previous conviction. You may consider this
admission only as it affects the defendant’s credibility. The prosecution
must prove beyond a reasonable doubt the defendant’s prior convictions
by evidence independent of the defendant’s earlier admission.
