CJI-Civ. 35:5
Danger to Self or Others — Defined
“Danger to self or others” means:
(a) That the person poses a substantial risk of physical harm to (insert applicable
pronoun) as shown by evidence of recent threats of or attempts at suicide or serious bodily
harm to (insert applicable pronoun); or
(b) That the person poses a substantial risk of physical harm to another person or
persons, as shown by evidence:
1. That the person has engaged in recent homicidal or other violent behavior; or
2. That the person has placed another in reasonable fear of violent behavior and
serious physical harm, as shown by a recent overt act, attempt, or threat to do serious
physical harm.
