ThefollowinglicensedprovidersareeligibletoprovideSBIRTorsupervisestaffwhoprovideSBIRT:
Physician/psychiatrist
Psychologist,PsyD/Ph.D.
Licensedclinicalsocialworker(LSCW)
Licensedmarriageandfamilytherapist(LMFT)
Licensedprofessionalcounselor(LPC)
NursePractitioner
PhysicianAssistant
Non-licensedprovidersmaydeliverSBIRTunderthesupervisionofalicensedproviderifsuchsupervisioniswithinthelegalscopeofpracticeforthatlicensedprovider.

Inordertodirectlydeliverscreeningandinterventionservices,providersarerequiredtoparticipateintrainingthatprovidesinformationabouttheimplementationofevidence-basedprotocolsforscreening,briefinterventions,andreferralstotreatment.Face-to-facetrainingsandconsultationsareavailablethroughvariousentitiessuchasSBIRTColorado,ColoradoCommunityManagedCareNetwork,andtheEmergencyNursesAssociation.
UnlicensedprovidersmaydeliverSBIRTservicesunderthesupervisionoflicensedprovidersifsuchsupervisioniswithinthelegalscopeofpracticeforthatlicensedprovider.Thelicensedproviderassumesprofessionalresponsibilityfortheservicesprovidedbytheunlicensedprovider.AllunlicensedproviderswhodeliverSBIRTservicesunderthesupervisionoflicensedprovidersmustmeetthefollowingrequirements:
Unlicensedhealthcareprofessionalsmustcompleteaminimumof60hoursofprofessionaltraining(e.g.,education,coursework,internship,practicum)withintheirrespectivefield.Thisexperiencemustincludeaminimumoffour(4)hoursoftrainingthatisdirectlyrelatedtoSBIRTservices.Atleast30ofthe60hoursmustmeettherequirementsstatebelow.
Unlicensedhealthcareprofessionalsmustcompleteaminimumof30hoursofface-to-facepatientcontactwithintheirfield.Thismayincludeinternships,on-the-jobtraining,orprofessionalexperience.
AllprovidersarerequiredtoretaindocumentationconfirmingthatstaffprovidingSBIRTmeetthetraining,education,andsupervisionrequirements.
