Amending juvenile petition
Before adjudication and on a motion of the petitioner or the State, if
applicable, a juvenile petition alleging that a child is delinquent, dependent, or in
need of supervision may be amended by written order of the juvenile court. If the
amendment results in a substantial departure from the original allegations in the
petition, the juvenile court shall continue the hearing set to consider the merits of
the petition on a motion of any party or on its own motion.
