Alaska Criminal Pattern Jury Instruction 1.52
Reminder of Oath - Retire to Deliberate
You were accepted as jurors in this case in reliance upon your answers to the questions asked of you concerning your qualifications. You are just as much bound by those answers now, and until you are finally discharged from further consideration on this case, as you were then. Your oath obligates you to conscientiously consider and weigh the evidence and to base your verdict on the law and the evidence.
When you return to the jury room, select a foreperson to preside over your deliberations.
Once you have agreed to a verdict on the decisions submitted to you, your foreperson should complete, date, and sign the verdict form[s]. Then you should give a note to the bailiff indicating that you have reached a verdict. The bailiff will advise the judge, and the judge in turn will summon the parties. Once all have reassembled, you will be brought into open court to return your verdict. Your foreperson should keep the verdict form and bring it into court at that time. Until it is received in open court your verdict is secret and you should tell no one what it is, including the judge, the in-court clerk, or the bailiff.
